Focus on Abundance

“When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist What does it take to succeed? To have what you desire? To be fulfilled? To prosper, be happy and be secure? It takes a focus on abundance! I have spent the last five years focusing on personal development alongside building businesses as the benefits of working on a growth mindset and believing in abundance over scarcity are infinite. Being able to bounce back faster, recover, adjust to change and focus on what is most important are all critical to success in life. In these uncertain times, resilience, abundance and openness to change are all critical tools in my toolbox. Napoleon Hill said, “Do not wait: the time will never be 'just right'. Start where you stand, and work whatever tools you may have at your command and better tools will be found as you go along.” What tools do you have in your toolbox? When you stop and focus on what you have as opposed to what you don’t have, you see abundance. In his book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Stephen R. Covey said when you think win-win and approach situations with an understanding of the other person’s point of view, you focus on abundance. Seek first to understand the needs and concerns of others to identify the key issues and then work together towards identifying all the possible options and solutions. Covey spoke about having an abundance mentality, saying that “it arises from internal security not external ranking, comparisons, opinions, possessions or associations.” Society has been conditioned to believe that there is scarcity so much so that for someone to succeed that would mean that another will fail as resources are limited. The paradigm that there is plenty for all is only achieved with an abundance or growth mindset. Dr Carol S. Dweck said that “the fixed mindset limits achievement. It fills people’s minds with interfering thoughts. It makes effort disagreeable and it leads to inferior learning strategies. What’s more it makes other people into judges instead of allies. Whether we are talking about Darwin or college students, important achievements require a clear focus, all-out effort and a bottomless trunkful of strategies plus allies in learning. This is what the growth mindset gives people and that’s why it helps their abilities grow and bear fruit.” Failure is part of the success process. With abundance and a belief in change, it’s good to try new things with an attitude of what can I learn from this experience? Have you heard of TEFCAS and Tony Buzan? In his book, Head Strong, Buzan writes that the brain is a success mechanism and it learns with every trial. With the TEFCAS system, you can train the brain to receive information in a different way. Success breeds success. In TEFCAS, the T stands for Trial and the learning process is marked by the number of Trials or 'Tryals'. When you try something, there's an Event and that is the E. Next is F which stands for Feedback. The universe supplies you with a cascade of information about the trial and the event that feeds back to you via all of your senses. Next, C is where with all the feedback, the brain Checks the input it's receiving both on conscious and subconscious levels. The A stands for Adjust where you compare your performance against your goal and you make any adjustments you need to realign yourself for the next trial. The Feedback is the learning and the S is Success so no matter what you do, your brain’s aim is to succeed. If you train your brain to process the effort you make, no matter what you do your brain’s aim is to succeed in doing it. Is your brain trained for success? The secret to overnight success in business or in your personal life can take many years of hard work and it takes time to create something great. Listen back to Gitanjali Trevorrow-Seymour in episode 044 The Possibilist and Lara Waldman in episode 019 Manifest Abundance. Two incredible women who share the belief of a growth mindset and infinite possibilities. Be open to change and know that life is full of obstacles that are on your way and not in your way. Instead of a ‘I can’t do that because…’ or ‘that’s not possible’, it’s a case of switching up your language to possibility into a ‘how can I?’ positive attitude. This opens up the subconscious mind to opportunity and to problem solving. What you do today matters! What you do today creates your tomorrow! Focus on Abundance!

ACTION POINT Be prepared, be proactive and plan ahead strategically to design your life. What will you do today to demonstrate your belief in abundance?
