Focus on Myths

Debunking myths is crucial for living a sustainable and authentic lifestyle that aligns with your purpose and values. Myths often perpetuate misinformation, leading to misguided decisions and behaviours that can negatively impact the environment, society and personal well-being.

Growing up and as a working mum, I was led to believe that it was possible to be, do and have it all. For years, my husband Jon and I had been trying to strike the balance that others around us appeared to manage and we’d thought we’d been pulling it off too. But had we really? Looking closer, it appeared we hadn’t. Both of us were at differing points of burnout and to continue like this was simply not sustainable.

Attending the One of Many annual conference in 2022, I was introduced to Superwoman by Dr Joanna Martin. The revelation that Superwoman was a myth and that I had been aspiring to live as Superwoman for over four decades sent every cell of my body into complete shock and confusion!

Naturally, I felt compelled and inspired to join the One of many community and was then torn between whether to start with the Lead the Change programme or complete their Coach Certification. Superwoman told me to ‘do both right now’. I firmly declined and started with Lead the Change before then becoming a certified One of many Women’s Coach.

The last two years have been transformational.

At the annual conference in 2023, Jo asked me what had changed for me on my Lead the Change journey. I told her that I couldn’t really articulate it in words, that it was more of a feeling. To be honest, I was still in shock a whole year later, still processing all the change I was going through as every retreat had revealed and unravelled more and more of my inner world. I was still reeling from the myth that I had been living.

So, this year at the 2024 annual conference, I caught up with Jo again and shared with her that I could finally answer the question she’d asked me a year before: that escaping the myth of Superwoman has been a gift of a lifetime. I listed all the changes I had been through and all the achievements I had accomplished, all without the aid of Superwoman and in a sustainable way.

It has now taken me over two years to embed the many learnings of those four retreats followed by a year of Coach Certification training and I know that there’s still more to come.

I am delighted to share that Jo is now sharing this gift of a lifetime as she has packed everything I've learned over the last two years into her new book - Superwoman: Escaping the Myth*. Whether you're looking to transform your own life or the world around you, Jo's book has all the necessary tools, stories and insights you need to inspire and equip you for your journey.

I highly recommend that you invest your time to read this book as you'll then spend the rest of your life reaping the benefits of what you're able to accomplish as a result.

Jo and I recorded a new Focus on WHY podcast episode together, where Jo emphasised the need to escape the Superwoman myth, the importance of trusting your intuition and how to activate your purpose to co-create a better future.

Listening to this episode you will recognise that you’re not alone in having grown up believing that you must be Superwoman, that instead you are capable of changing 'your' world and 'the' world without burning out.

By challenging and dispelling myths as falsehoods, you pave the way for more informed and conscious choices. You can discover what truly matters to you and align your actions with your core values and purpose. This is turn contributes to creating a more conscious and responsible world.
